Lee Home Sales Skyrocket

The real estate market in Southwest Florida is beginning to show signs of life - and in a big way. During the 4th quarter of 2011 home sales in Lee County jumped a whopping 170%. December, which is often a slow sales month due to the holidays, recorded over 1,700 real estate transactions. The skyrocketing sales rate is an extremely positive sign that consumer confidence is returning. That's the main reason the experts agree: "Now is the time to buy."

On a related note, the population of Southwest Florida also continues to grow and that's helpful to the real estate market. According to a mid-year market report by CB Richard Ellis, Lee County showed a growth of 3.6% and Collier County a 4.4 percent growth rate. That places Southwest Florida in the Top 10 fastest growing areas in the nation.


 

More Positive News

Statistics compiled by Florida Realtors indicate home sales in the Sunshine State increased in 2011. When comparing 2010 to 2011, home sales rose by 8%. That's the third time in as many years that sales have grown in Florida. The sales increases were driven mainly by lower prices with the median price in Florida now being $131,700. The chief economist for Florida Realtors anticipates continued growth in 2012.


 

Lee County Prices Up

In its report published in mid-January, Florida Realtors also released an interesting statistic regarding Lee County. According to the report, the median sales price in Lee shot up by 36%. In December 2010 the median price was $90,700. In December 2011 it was $123,400. Rising prices and a steady population growth once again confirm now is the time to get back into the real estate market.
